No one can explain how this came to be, but once we realized we had suddenly started mispronouncing it, we decided to keep on keeping on with our crime against language simply due to the fact the "word" is so inherently stupid, we feel we are truly doing it justice.

Or, apparently as RIDICULOUS as trying to spell English words correctly.
Since it's April 1st, can I beat you mercilessly with a club until you remove that annoying fucking E from a word which never is spelled with an E, doesn't sound in the least like it has an E in it, and hell, just the presence of the E makes the Universe tremble in terror?

I find it funny that you're offended.
Perhaps you aren't aware that "gay" is in common usage by the youngsters as a pejorative term, and this is nothing but a parody of that usage.
If you would relax your offensive sensors a little, we wouldn't have to parse words so carefully for you, and you would instantly become a more attractive person.

You might've had a point if a precedent hadn't been set in the previous 3 articles:

I'm not sure how the tagging system works, but Slashdot is a moderated site, and the use of the term "gay" in this context arguably should be moderated out. I doubt the mods would let tags through if they had racial or misogynistic meanings, and homophobia should be treated no differently.
