Matt Groening to be Final Boss in New Simpsons Game 112

eldavojohn writes "Announced at E3, Mr. Groening will be the final boss in the Simpsons game. Mr. Groening commented on the game: 'They did a send-up of videogames. It's a videogame about videogames; and I'm in the videogame. I'm a boss that you have to fight at the end of the game. It was really fun recording a million ways of dying, going "UGGH, ARGGH, EUURGH!"'"

It's a videogame about videogames; and I'm in the videogame.
Wait a minute, does this mean he's just the tiny boss of one of the videogames in the videogame? I'm not buying this just so I can watch Bart defeat MG in a mini-videogame... Someone please clarify this ambiguous statement ASAP.

To each their own, but I would love to see a Futurama game. I tried to get into the simpsons, and the treehouse of horrors always are a treat. But it's just *eh* for me. I think the true talent went into the Futurama scripts.

    Just my $0.02

      It was shit though...
    • A Futurama MMORPG.

There was a Futurama game and it stunk up the place. It was the same format as every other cartoon franchise game - third person platformer. I swear they use the same engine for all those games, spend a weekend knocking some new models together, whisk up a few textured boxes to chuck obstacles in and there's your cartoon franchise game!

That said, Simpsons Hit & Run was a blast, which was a surprise as all previous Simpsons games were terrible

      • No love for the Simpsons arcade game? (Which I am still praying will make it's way to XBox Live when the movie hits)

Haven't played it... Off the top of my head the timeline of my Simpsons game history is (very roughly) Bart vs the Space Mutants, Something with Krusty (not actual title...) ;), Simpsons Wrestling, Hit & Run. There are probably others but they don't spring to mind immediately.

I'm too old for the arcade but (as with all about to turn 30) I'm drawing up plans for a MAME cab as I have a 21" CRT about to enter retirement and I got a decent enough PC for nothing from a fr

Quick tip for anyone living in Perth - if you go to Rottnest and visit "Brett Heady's Fun Park" they have The Simpsons Arcade game PLUS Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Worth the boat trip over if you ask me...

Ah, for the days when The Simpsons was actually funny.
  • I hope that destroying Matt Groening involves more than firing rockets through a few holes in a wall and destroying a head.
  • E3 is on the 11th so this was announced ahead of E3.

I mean, if you're going to stick someone in a videogame, why not go all-out?
  • Knowing all the people who were involved in making Futurama The Game (PS2 & XBOX), I just know that all of them would have loved to put Matt as the final boss in that game and shoot him into pieces...;)

For those who wants to know, he basically refused taking part in the project until the eleventh hour when he suddenly demanded to change EVERYTHING, causing delays and all kinds of havoc for all people involved (all vacations canceled, many suffered burnouts etc) and partly being to blame for the producti

Not fair. They went through a bad patch but they rebounded pretty quickly, I thought. It's still a witty, inventive show. I'd say the main problem with the most recent episodes hasn't been the jokes, visual and otherwise -- they're still funny -- but the plots have become over-labored and fanboyish, with the writers constantly using whatever excuse they can to bring this or that character back into the show. It was better when the universe wasn't so established, when things would still come out of left fiel
  • I really hope it's the one from Season Seven's 138th Episode Spectacular when he parodied Patton, not: http://blog.92y.org/images/collage/blog_groening3. jpg [92y.org] How is that menacing or scary? For that matter, what are his threats to justify wanting to beat him? Another ten years of bad episodes? Who am I kidding? I'm gonna buy them all anyway.

That would be kinda neat if one of the final bosses "abilities" is to draw new minions into existance to come and attack you. We've all seen bosses raise minions from the dead, summon them, or whatnot. But how many of them use a pencil?

Geesh... I may be alone here but I like a little surprise in my TV, movies, and games. I'm not knocking /. for posting info that's out on the interweb but why should we encourage spoiling in the article title or summary? Couldn't we have posted, "Final Simpson's game boss revealed," and let peeps click through if they wanted to know?
    • by LKM ( 227954 )
Yeah, this would have been much morer awesomer if we had discovered it on our own :-(
  • Many thanks for the spoiller, anyway, I think that the history of the final part of any book/movie/game should always come with a "spoiller warning" :(
  • The past couple of Simpsons games really haven't done the franchise the justice it deserves.
Wasn't Hit & Run pretty highly regarded? I haven't played a Simpsons game since the Genesis personally, and I didn't much like it. (Bartzilla was a pain in the ass of a sequence)
  • You ruined the ending!
  • This looks like obvious fun poking at Doom 2, at the end of which you got to kill the giant head of the creator. Didn't he also groan when you shot him (in a similar fashion to the groaning decribed in the summary)?

Dear God, I hope that doesn't mean that MG will bring out a cartoon equivalent to Daikatana ;)
