Webcast of "Bunny" 37

Dr. Jest writes "Blue Sky Studios is webcasting their computer animated short "Bunny" at certain times from March 15-24. You have to register your name and email address to watch it, but it's more than worth it. The broadcast quality is excellent, as is the music by Tom Waits. " Bunny is awesome. Don't miss it. The lighting and hair are both stunning. Some of the best Computer Animation I've ever seen.

  • I was very much impressed with the animation. Cute story too.
  • ...is right here in NY! Alright. :)

They sent out snail mailers about this event, too.

  • Even tho the streaming video just murdered the quality.

From what you could see tho...it's quite well done...right up there with Pixar studios :)

worth the trouble to go through to see..
  • Yay! How about direct digital to DVD! I think Disney is doing that for A Bug's Life (although they're still their clueless old self about not putting any extras on the disc).
  • I agree. I remember when "Reboot" was first showing on TV. A bunch of my friends were all going nuts over it. I watched a couple of episodes and said "So what? The plot stinks." Maybe I watched the wrong episodes, but I don't think so.

I'm all for the advancement of CGI, but movies are to tell stories, not to show off SGI's latest box.
  • Gee, I thought it was a happy ending...
  • Don't just spoil the ending for us!
  • Will it ever be possible to purchase this through anyplace? I for one would love to see a good copy of it, and if that means buying it in 35mm - then I guess it's time to get a projector *grin* (I'd rather have a vhs or mpg, tho).

I understand that it takes a lot of time and effort to put this out there - I don't think that the automatic assumption should be that people who are asking about it are trying to rip anyone off. The nearest film festivals to me are a three hour drive and the cost to get there is out of my budget range...

(hoping this is still being monitored by blue sky :)

  • While I would love to see it, I don't think any streaming video program is robust enough to do the short any justice, especially with CGI involved. Streaming audio is not terribly strong yet, and streaming video is a nightmare, even within a T1 connection. I can only imagine the horrors this will do to CGI animation.

Let's all hope for some sort of download to be available. MPG would be best.

  • Hope they have some mpg's of this when its all done. /me wants to watch it on his 17inch monitor :)

  • That's just a silly thing to say around here. Do you remember the dancing baby? That original avi made it around the world in massive circulation two years ago mainly because it was given away. Character Studio could have never advertised like that by having people login and wait for a cruddy video stream. Firstly, the bandwidth still sucks, and secondly, I'd like to see it again --and not just every 3 hours. Besides, the dude isn't making any $$ from the video -just some good advertising. What better way than to circulate the video all over the net? Put your name in the 1st few frames and at the end and your name is everywhere. Get a clue!!!
  • Please explain how this is done.
  • Awesome animation. Great storytelling. Excellent screen shots and attention to detail. But Damn does it piss me off to see video shorts (or movies for that matter) that have endings like that!! Why can't I get a happy ending or something that doen't depress me? If I want reality (like death and crap like that) I can watch CNN. I like movies that allow me to escape from reality. Give me what I want dammit!!!!
  • but some of his comments seem to indicate that Linux is far from being his primary OS. :-(

    So what?

    So he likes BeOS.

    Big deal--his prerogative.

    Get a life.

    sheesh.

  • Mpeg and QUICKTIME I hope. Stuff like this (and the Star Wars trailer) should be in as many formats as possible. QuickTime and mpeg are good portable formats that can reach many users.

Hope somebody converts this to an mpeg file like they did with the Star Wars trailer.

  • The animation was beautiful, but the story?! I didn't find it funny or even clever. Guess I missed the point... if there was one. Oh well.

  • For those who care...

Circumventing the showtimes for bunny are easy. Once you succesfully log in for a show just save the asx redirector or real media file. Then you can show your frineds the movie whenever you like.
  • Thanks for the comment about not ripping people off. We at Blue Sky have decided to provide people
with the chance to see the entire film even though
its lower quality than we want. This film was produced on 35 mm film and is of theatrical quality. There is not any format that will have the same kind of quality that you'd see on the big screen.

This film is making the circuit as part of individual film
festivals and a travelling animation festival. The
best way to see it is to (dare I say it) *pay* to
    see it projected.

The Bunny website also include medium resolution stills and a pretty decent mpg clip.

    Enjoy it.
  • We're working on having both Bunny at a theater
near you AND the possibility of being able to
purchase the video. Keep listening to the
bunny website for details. New film festivals
are popping up every day. Los Angeles Independent
    Film Festival was announced today!
  • besides the animation...the story was really good.
  • bunny had a much more realistic look and feel to anything i've seen produced by pixar. then again it's only a couple minutes long, whereas all the pixar works i've seen span much longer.
  • didn't rob receive a copy of Bunny on VHS or something? i remember him mentioning Bunny in one of the "goodies i get through slashdot" postings. maybe he could rip an mpeg version. =]
  • the story went nowhere? the bunny dies...lonely and bitter, but ends up with her husband. the moth just showed her the way er something....

Somebody ought to cross ball point pens with coat hangers so that the pens will multiply instead of disappear.
