barbarai writes "ABC News' Rick Klein reports: For those concerned about stimulus spending, the General Services Administration sends word tonight that $18 million in additional funds are being spent to redesign the Recovery.gov Web site. "Recovery.gov 2.0 will use innovative and interactive technologies to help taxpayers see where their dollars are being spent," James A. Williams, commissioner of GSA's Federal Acquisition Service, says in a press release announcing the contract awarded to Maryland-based Smartronix Inc. according to the ABC news blog.
Smartronix was founded in 1995. It currently has 370 employees, and made $51 million last year. Smartronix execs include: M. Arshed Javaid President,Joseph (Joe) Gerczak CFO, Alan Parris VP, Secretary, and Treasurer,John Parris VP Corporate Strategy, Rob Baker Director Strategic Enterprise Initiatives and Brian J. Hurley VP Strategy.
Alan and John Parris, who are brothers, are generous contributors to Sen. Steny Hoyer (D.- MD.)according to FEC records. In a 2007 interview, John Parris said ''One of the things that makes us unique, is our dual-use technologies," offering services and products that can be used by both military and private sector customers." It wouldn't be transparent to redesign Recovery.gov so that the military or government could collect information and track citizen queries and folks who use the database to see how their tax money is spent, right?"
