sfcrazy writes "When Linus Torvalds sneezes the Linux world gets a cold. The father of Linux has praised Google Chrombooks for being more useful than Gnome 3 Shell. Linus points out the problem desktops like Gnome(of Ubuntu Unity) are facing with their 'modern' approach. "It allows such radical notions as having easy mouse configurability for things like how to launch applications. Things Gnome removed because those kinds of things were "too confusing", and in the process made useless. And a auto-hide application dock at the bottom.""

Linus Torvalds is mellowing (Score:2)
Mr. Torvalds is showing his age.
Of all things, he is lamenting the "modern approaches" of Unity and Gnome 3.
The Desktop UI, as we know it, hasn't have any meaningful makeover for the past 20 years or so, while I am not saying the what Gnome 3 and Unity are doing are of the top quality stuffs, I do laud them for giving brand new ideas a shot.

Not really, he is, after all, claiming that one brand new UI is much better than another. He's not doing the stereotypical decrying everything that came out after he turned 30.
