+ - Cancer Treatment

Submitted by CalibanCaliban
CalibanCaliban (1001278) writes "University of Alberta researcher appears to have identified a new cancer treatment method. It appears in press releases recently but a scientific journal abstract is also available.
The approach is to reactivate the mitochondrial processes of cancer cells that would not normally self terminate and therefore trigger the self termination. Tests occured both in cultured cells and in experiments with rats.
Of particular significance to the slashdot community may be the fact that the pharmaceutical has a prior use for treatment of another metabolic condition (an advantage in expediting human trials) and is unencumbered by intellectual property."
