+-   Guantanamo Prisoners Granted Right to Appeal on Friday June 13 2008, @02:14AM beebee

beebee writes "It looks like Guantanamo Bay detention centre is not beyond the reach of U.S. law after all, according to a recent Supreme Court ruling. Supposed terrorists can now go to federal court to challenge their continued detention (the right to habeas corpus), meaning that civil judges will now have the power to check the government's designation of Guantanamo detainees as enemy combatants. This should remedy one of the major issues Human Rights activists have over Guantanamo. However, the detention centre is not closing anytime soon, neither can that stop President Bush from making a new legislative effort to alter the decision's result."
