+-   TiVo Building a Data Mining Empire on Tuesday October 07 2008, @07:42AM Anonymous Coward

An anonymous reader writes "The TiVo PC, unleashed last week, is TiVo's attempt to become a data mining company, according to Andrew Keen, author of "The Cult of the Amateur." TiVo launched a research division in 2006 to aggregate and sell subscribers' data based on how they viewed commercials. But, with the TiVo PC, an online version of its DVR, TiVo will gather much richer and more specific details of user behavior than it could before. For this reason, Keen calls TiVo "the big brother of the emerging online video industry." He also says TiVo PC spells "game over" for sites like Hulu and ABC.com that force people to watch online commercials."

Don't mind him; politicians always sound like that.
