I'm all for playing dirty. The Iranian government has generally been awful and disruptive. Israel and the US aren't exactly been paragons of virtue, but Iran is MUCH worse. I support slowing down their nuke program by almost any means necessary.
That being said, the strategy of suppressing Iran's nuclear program can't run forever. Nukes are almost 100 YEAR OLD TECHNOLOGY. If the country is determined to get them, they will get them, sooner or later. What then? When they do manage to build a small nuclear
the strategy of suppressing Iran's nuclear program can't run forever.
All you need to do is keep suppressing until the reasonable citizens of Iran take over.
That would be greatly accelerated if we stopped sending support to Iran's official government, but will happen eventually.
What then? When they do manage to build a small nuclear arsenal... what's Israel's next move?
Plenty of steps in-between, like sabotaging all the missile facilities, or just outright bombing to tiny pieces anywhere that holds nuclear weapons manufacture / material. Takes a long time to build out that stuff.
The reason why the strategy can work is there are plenty of people inside Iran that don't want to kill millions of jews or U.S. citizens, then die in a fiery inferno themselves the way the Iranian government currently would like. So they help Israel where possible. Not to mention the help from other countries in the region who do not want to be near a hot nuclear war. How do you think Israel has such great intelligence on these matters...
That'e why the suppression strategy can work nearly indefinitely. Probably in the end Iran will get at least one bomb set off in the U.S., maybe one is Israel though that seems less likely to succeed even if they are physically closer.
Long term, this won't work (Score:5, Interesting)
