Jeremy Rayner writes "The 2005 Hitchhiker's movie trailer is available in AVI or RealMedia formats. The movie trailer doesn't reveal anything, but looks cool.

Radio leaves plenty of room for imagination.
It isn't a given that any story will work better in any given medium. For instance Star Wars, the movie, totally blew me away when I first saw it. I'm not even remotely interested in reading the book.

Yes, sometimes movie adaptations of books can fail miserably, but there are some stunning success stories, and I for one am glad that there are people with faith enough to see them through over the objections of people such as yourself.

And for those of you who aren't in the UK, you may appreciate knowing that Radio 4 make their programs available on their website [bbc.co.uk] for a week after the broadcast.
Unfortunately they're still in crappy real media format, but mplayer [mplayerhq.hu] deals with them fine.

Blue stars, clouds, light/sun, then unzooming and showing our pretty little planet.
And then.... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, Earth exlodes!
Familiar title "DON'T PANIC" shows...

Except without any action. It's just a logo. That's why you are reminded of Men In Black, I think the trailer did something similar.
I think it was appropriate here though - the Guide would certainly have a logo. The graphic style reminds me of some of the StarShip Titanic stuff.

Its brilliant lines like those that have lots of people worried about how this is going to translate into film.

The end of the second radio series had Arthur taking off in the Heart of Gold after discovering Zaphod's part in the destruction of Earth, leaving Ford and Zaphod stranded with the ruler of the universe, and Trillian had disappeared near the end of the first series (forcibly married to the Algolian Chapter of the Galactic Rotary Club, from memory).

The trailer itself is definitely just a teaser, shows off some nice but not terribly groundbreaking CGI. It'll build some hype among those who weren't aware it was coming. The logo's pretty cool, incorporating elements of earlier logos while still being new and different.

As the article says, there's not much content beyond the exploding earth and "don't panic" message. Still, I'm a big hitch-hikers fan, and it gave me goosebumps. You can go stick your Star Wars prequel, I don't care anymore. I just hope they don't go and f%ck up this film!

I just sortof shook my head and thought: Oh God. What have they done.
Amazingly, the realmedia file is willing to be downloaded!
That either speaks to:
the massive bandwidth usually associated with a .nu domain
the disgraceful bandwidth of the French
