An anonymous reader shares some free streaming media options:
There's over 10,000 public domain audiobooks at LibriVox.org, created by volunteers reading public domain works. (If you've got time, why not record yourself reading your own favorite public domain poem or novel?) And there's also a lot of free audiobooks (and ebooks) available through Hoopla, a free "digital media" service that's partnering with many public libraries across North America. They're not just offering books; there's also movies, music, TV shows, and even comic books.
As always, Amazon's audiobook service Audible offers a free one-month trial. But they've now also announced a new free service for "as long as the schools are closed... Kids everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories..."
You can also stream over 6,500 full-length movies over at archive.org, including Night of the Living Dead and The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz.
They've even got a collection of classic cartoons, like Tom and Jerry, Betty Boop, the Pink Panther, and lots of Popeye (including one where Popeye runs for president against Bluto.)
And an archive.org blog post explains that that's just the beginning: If gaming is more your speed, then check out the MS-DOS Games in our Software Library. This collection includes dozens of classic favorites such as Pac-Man, Sim City, The Oregon Trail, Doom, Prince of Persia, Donkey Kong, and Tetris, as well as many more lesser-known titles such as Aliens Ate My Baby Sitter! and Freddy Pharkas, Frontier Pharmacist. Independent voices aren't "crushed," they're merely excluded from the consumerist part that you rail against! I'm not sure. I looked into YT streaming and I found there's a number of steps to get it working, the deal breaker for me is I had to agree Google can access my databases and phone number at any time (or something to that effect).
I've done streaming on uStream for Parachute Mobile, it's ok there's a 20 second delay, not great but it worked. Then IBM bought them and then would charge $100/month, I'd subscribe for just one month then cancel for the mission.

I have it going in the background a lot lately. They have some commercials which can get repetitive but plenty of content. You don't need a login or anything and it works right from your browser. Sleepy Hollow is currently playing.

- website says not available in my area (overseas)
- U.S. AppStore downloaded but then is stuck on opening black screen Unable to load content. A lot of other people also gave one star reviews for this reason.

I recommend an app called 4k Video Downloader to grab offline copies if you need them. It has an option to only grab audio if you don't need the video. Windows and Mac OS supported.
It's free with some slightly annoying ads but they have regular sales so don't pay full price if you decide to buy it.

Youtube has a lot of good free content out there, you just have to sort thru the crap but there are plenty of full episodes of good shows like Mind Field by Vsauce.
There are lots of ad supported sites like crackle.
There are lots of free bundles. Verizon is currently giving away Disney+, ATT is currently giving away their own service as well as your choice Starz, HBO, or Cinemax. Tmobile gives away Netflix. Apple gives away a free year of AppleTV with their phones. If you have cable, you can get free apps for all the channels.
Also, check out your local library. My library offers Hoopla for free which has streaming movies and shows as well as books and audiobooks.

Streaming is a form of DRM and tracking, which unnecessarily consumes extra resources. You should do it as little as possible.
You can download all the public domain movies on archive.org, you can easily download any youtube videos there's any chance you'd like to watch more than once. You can easily record TV shows broadcast over the air. You can quickly copy to disk any movies you've purchased on physical media, for convenient viewing. etc.
