Reddit Users Revolt Against the iOS App's New Video Player (xda-developers.com) 41

The official Reddit for iOS app recently received an update that added a new video player UI, and many users don't like it one bit. XDA Developers reports: The Reddit Mobile subreddit, the community where Reddit administrators notify users of new Android and iOS app updates, is currently filled to the brim with complaints about the new video player. Many users describe the experience as TikTok or Instagram-like. Others simply say it's too intrusive and also requires more button presses to reach the comments section of a post. The new video player UI has yet to reach the Android version, but we'd be surprised if Reddit pushes ahead with the controversial video player changes in their current form. For those looking for an alternative, XDA Developers recommends the Apollo app.

Why even use it. There are better unofficial apps on iOS and Android.

If you're watching videos for the comments you're both missing the point entirely and the bait.

  • It seems like maybe we are seeing that small groups of people, currently on reddit, are realizing the power of organized numbers. Except now it is for achieving temporary or short-term goals. All it takes is 1. come up with an appealing idea 2. have a plan for how multitudes of like-thinking people can leverage it and 3. post in your special interest group and then bam! ??? profit!
    • Well, it's Reddit, so all it takes is:

      1. Be angry about some change.

To be fair, this was on the wall ever since we saw over the last decade how a vocal minority can have a disproportionate silencing effect on the majority. Four butthurt snowflakes can get someone banned? Imagine what three million redditors can do. And now we don't have to imagine anymore, we saw what they did to Melvin Capital (and, indirectly, Robinhood, which can kiss 75% of their users goodbye).

To put things in perspective, the WSB mob probably had more actual support than BLM (more people poured their

It doesn't seem to have a lot of annoyances that the app does.

    • The main annoyance of the website is that popup asking you to install the app all the time.

      • Most of the problems with Reddit's mobile site can be fixed by setting iOS-Safari to always load the "Desktop" site and setting the font to 50%. Everything lays out properly and it doesn't block NSFW content or try to make you install the app. The same settings(50%-font desktop-mode) also work well for facebook.com.
      • Click the button on the top right corner of the site, click settings, click to disable the popup.

(sigh) How often does one get the chance to instead write the headline like this:

"Reddit Users are Revolting -- Against the iOS App's New Video Player"

"Indeed they most certainly are!" :-)

      There, fixed that for you.

  • Why are people even using the official iOS client? Apollo is a million times better.

  • The timing is impeccable, but no one is falling for it. My suspicious tells me that the original post shill is an attempt to is to create an adverse sentiment and discourage people from using Reddit, the wallstreetbets forum among others, at the time the Hedge Funds shot betters are getting hammered. Earlier yesterday they started promoting silver as another way of distraction so that people could leave their positions on GameStop, AMC, etc and stop their bleeding. It's a great place to find out what your Starbucks barista, Whole Foods checker, or Comcast service person thinks.

The answer is that the Bell Curve is real, and what the lower 90% thinks is not just gibberish, but egomaniac delusions of grandeur justified by gibberish formed from fragments of both Marxism and Libertarianism.
