Instagram Ditches the IGTV Brand, Combines Everything But Reels Into An 'Instagram Video' Format (techcrunch.com) 9
On Tuesday, Instagram announced that it will now combine IGTV's long-form video and Instagram Feed videos into a new format called simply "Instagram Video." TechCrunch reports: These videos, both longer and shorter, will be found on users' profiles in a new "Video" tab. Meanwhile, when people encounter videos on Instagram, they'll be able to tap anywhere on the video to enter into a fullscreen viewing mode. After watching, they can then choose to keep scrolling to discover more video content from creators or tap the back button to exit. None of these changes will impact what Instagram is doing with Reels, though. The company's short-form video platform and TikTok rival will continue to remain separate, we're told. They won't be mixed into this feed of videos, if users choose to scroll.

But it will not host Reels videos. With today's update, users will still be able to upload their non-Reels videos in the same way as before -- by clicking on the plus sign (+) in the top-right corner of the Instagram home page and selecting "Post." Videos can be up to 60 minutes in length. Instagram is also adding new features like trimming, filters, and people and location tagging as part of the updated upload experience. On the outside chance this isn't a troll or a copy/paste from somewhere else, there are plenty of disposable e.mail addresses you can get, or a Proton e.mail address, that require none of the things you gripe about.

TV is sort of an outdated term that has no real meaning to a lot of people in the Instagram target market. It doesn't convey any information about what the experience is like.

Kids have been using weird terms for a while, like saying "Netflix and chill", which means sitting/lying on/in a couch/bed watching TV (or "Netflix" as people now call it).
It's still just watching television at the end of the day, just it's communicated in a "glowed up" way to make you think that they're not just doing "lame" things like their parents have done for 30+ years.

That's...not what that means. You ought to look that one up before you go using that casually.
What I mean is that TV is being used to mean something like continuous pre-scheduled, broadcaster-controlled medium rather than an on-demand service. Which is odd, because the Instagram videos are more like a streaming video site than traditional television.

Oh, I definitely know what people want to (and Netflix marketing teams want you to) believe it means, but it's just like how the cigarette companies want you to believe smoking is "cool".
Hence people think that telling their friends that they are going to "Netflix and chill" is cool, risqué, hip, rather than just the lame act of sitting at home and watching Netflix instead of heading to a party or heading out on the town.
