Sea's Free Fire Among Apps India Bans on China Security Fear (bloomberg.com) 20

India has banned 54 apps it says are of Chinese origin, including Sea's marquee game Free Fire, citing security concerns, Bloomberg News reported Monday, citing people with knowledge of the matter, the latest instance of tensions between the two neighbors locked in a protracted border dispute. From a report: Sea's stock sank more than 9% in pre-market trading in New York. The apps banned by the South Asian nation's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology include those belonging to large China tech firms such as Tencent, Alibaba and NetEase, and are re-branded versions of apps already banned by India in 2020, the people said asking not to be identified citing rules on speaking to the media.

Is there another oil spill that caught on fire, and now the sea is giving it away for free?

    • Hooray, you got in first with the "I dont know what this well known thing is!" post!

Other well known things you might not have heard of: Google!

      • Is this thing actually well-known? I've heard of a lot of mobile games, but not this one.

      • "Re-branded Apps previously banned in 2020" says everything you really need to know. And no, I don't think I would say the game Sea's Free Fire Among (which I presume is a knock off of Among Us) is well known.

The title is horrible, but, "Free Fire" is the game, by Sea Ltd.

Google's results are all business news about the company, mostly how its stock is doing. There are no articles just talking about the game; there are only a couple of people posting their gameplay videos on YouTube.

This seems to be a case of "I know what it is, therefore it's well-known".

The sea is giving away free fire that India is banning because India's apps fear China. It's a perfectly understandable headline.

"Sea's Free Fire Among Apps India Bans on China Security Fear"
Editors, please edit. This title is bewildering.

For some stupid reason they left out the verb of the sentence. Saved a whole 2 characters.

    • Google search has ruined grammar.

    • TFA has the same awful title, but: Free Fire, by Sea Ltd. among apps that India bans on China security fear

Given China routinely has a lot of spying, sabre rattling, and out right quasi-domestic terrorism to India.. its not so much security fear as is prudent actions based the current conditions.
    • Just adding a "the" in there makes it way more legible:

Sea's Free Fire Among the Apps India Bans on China Security Fear

      Or quotes on "Free Fire:"

Sea's "Free Fire" Among the Apps India Bans on China Security Fear

    • This, so much this.

"(Sea's) (Free Fire Among Apps) that (India Bans) (on China Security Fear)" is about the best conclusion I could come to.

      • Ah, and reading other comments I see that it's more like:

Sea's "Free Fire" Among Apps (that) India Bans on China Security Fear.

    • That hasn't happened since Slashdot became Dicedot and any previously given fucks were phased out.
