Biden Urges American Firms To 'Harden' Cyber-Defenses Against Russia (protocol.com) 22

President Biden on Monday urged American companies to put up their cyber-defenses, citing "evolving intelligence that the Russian Government is exploring options for potential cyberattacks" against the U.S. From a report: "The Federal Government can't defend against this threat alone," Biden said in a lengthy statement released by the White House. He called on the private sector, as "critical infrastructure owners and operators," to "accelerate efforts to lock their digital doors." [...] "I urge our private sector partners to harden your cyber defenses immediately," Biden said in the statement. In the lead-up to the invasion of Ukraine, the White House repeatedly publicized its intelligence about Moscow's plans in an effort to deter them.

  • every. single. day. i am dealing with bullshit created by your policies of either backdooring (heartbleed bug, my ass) or hoarding vulnerabilities.

Fuck having US try and harden things - how about YOU change the policies so that 100% of the time when you find a security flaw you tell the vendor and provide assistance to fix it, and STOP using NSL's to backdoor encryption etc.

There are no backdoors for good guys only - not even with pointing out history shows you stopped being the good guys long ago.

Shh... they're still in the "we haven't had real communism" emo phase. There are no such thing as good backdoors is well beyond their reasoning.

Shit, we're just coming out of "defunding the police" increased crime realization.

    • Have you not heard of VPNs and proxies? Do you think nation-state level hacks are performed by invalids?

I like a bit of Stravinsky. It is interesting to note that the first major Marxist revolution took place in Russia, According to Marxist theory, the revolution would take place in the most developed industrial economies, such as England, but instead, it happened in a mostly agrarian economy, ruled by a monarchy. You may assume that i a

  • We'll be sure to lock the digital doors when we leave for the night!

Honestly, if your company needed to wait for a message from the president before it would take actions to digitally secure itself, you were fucked a long time ago.

  • We should be hardening for attacks overall. Not like Russia is the only bad actor. They are the worst, because they tend to "hire" third parties to help them attack, but China / North Korea / Israel / a few others are huge sponsors of state hacking against US companies.
  • 1st fundamental law of bureaucracies:
Don't close the gate until all the horses have left.

    2nd fundamental law of bureaucracies:
If any horses return, open the gate again.

A conclusion is simply the place where someone got tired of thinking.
