Star Wars Prequels Media Movies

Vanity Fair pictures are now online 22

Lincoln writes "We've got someone to get us a First Bound copy of Vanity Fair - the pictures are now online!" That didn't take very long at all. The other major news is that Lucas has been saying that there probably won't be an epilogue trilogy as originally planned.

  • Maybe Lucas will create a epilogue that takes place long after the original three movies.[

That would be far more interesting IMO.
  • I thought that Luke would become an agent of evil, and get turned back by Leia.

Luke had at least started. . .

It's all over aint-it-cool-news as well.

    Can you say 'server meltdown?'

    I knew you could.
  • Greetings!

As it's becoming habit, I'm mirroring the Star Wars postings from one of my servers in San Francisco. Enjoy!

  • Is anyone else starting to feel jerked around by the tremendous amount of manipulative marketing tactics beaming from the Fortress of Lucas-itude in the last few months? Using a reasonable amount of modern marketing, media manipulation, and DC spin techniques to create some excitement is one thing, but what is going on with Star Wars I right now is far beyond that.

"Leaks" of inside information, the super-hype around the different previews, careful release of limited quantity of toys to whet that market: it all starts to feel like the Ewoks (that is, created only for the purpose of extracting more $$$ at the toy counter, not for true customer satisfaction), only 100 times worse. And I for one am feeling somewhat abused.

  • How he'd fit the droids in (supposed to be in all 9 movies) is beyond me. And it would kinda break the continuity of the episodes to have 6 which are more or less continuous and 3 which are not.

  • Yeah, the whole epilogue trilogy never made much sense to me -- with the Empire defeated, do the rebels just sit around ala the non-violent version of Itchy & Scratchy saying "More Lemonade? Yes, Puh-lease."
  • I seem to remember Lucas saying somewhere (the interview he did with WIRED, maybe?) that he wouldn't be doing the third trilogy because the actors were all getting too old. I assume that's why the novelizations all take place in this time period.

I'm not sure how much of Lucas's notes and ideas for the third trilogy were used to create the books, though obviously as more books come out, they're less and less of the original, more and more of whoever is writing the book.

I'm just hoping that TPM is more like the first two movies and less like JEDI.

I don't see the third trilogy being done either. In addition to the comments above about marketing and about the timeline being screwed up by the books, there's also the fact the the "current" trilogy won't be finished until around 2003-04. Then if Lucas were to wait ANOTHER 15 years... ain't gonna happen, kids. Sorry.

BTW, big THANK YOU to Rob & Co. for fixing the "flat" display option. I'm on a dialup (I don't work in a fancy office with a fancy T3 -- so shoot me) and using threads to see all the responses just takes like forever, man. Spasibo!

  • If you think about it. 9 movies about a basic space opera, with good vs. evil confrontations, is really taking things a bit too far. Just leave well enough alone, and start making more original movies.

Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars. And I am definately watching the prequels, but after a while you just have to say enough already, and don't ruin a good thing. Leave that for the fanatics.

  • My roomie has resisted all pre-release info on SW:EP1. The only thing he's willing to see is the trailer, and ONLY if it happens to be showing before a movie he sees. He's resisted watching it on video tape from TV and the digitized downloads.

I have to say, with all I've seen and heard, I still don't think I'll be disappointed.

  • It seems like the Slashdot effect has hit the site. Oh well.
  • No, they're probably not planning an epilogue trilogy because the officially endorsed series of books currently depicting the next, oh, 30 or so years after ROTJ would conflict with anything they came up with (unless they restricted themselves to one of the books, which would be a bad idea).

Personally, I feel the first few series of books released depicting the "future" were good; they started going downhill after awhile, though... same damned predictable outcome: New Republic (the new name for the Rebel Alliance) wins again... and again... and... you get the picture. :)
