Episode 2 Spoilers 18

Tide writes "Mr. Showbiz has a scoop on rumors of the Episode 2 plot. While Mr. Lucas hasn't written a single word yet, he has the plotline already brewing. Check the link out here. " Some interesting rumblings, but nothing majorly spoiler. More reaffirmations that the new trailer will be attached to Wing Commander later this month for those of us that are truly obsessive and willing to shell out cash just to see it.

  • I'm not sure I want to believe in the mass warfare scene mentioned in the page...

Brings to mind the stupid war scenes in Starship Troopers. Unless Jedi can deal with radiation, explode a couple neutron bombs in the upper atmosphere to neutralize life forms. Very evil, I know, and indiscriminate against civilians and natural fauna/flora...

Or a Jedi virus... A Force poison or Force disease, or a Force bomb...

As inspiring as masses of Jedi might be, it seems particularly unproductive, unless written in such a way that such an approach is necessary and unavoidable. I just can't think of any reason myself... Thinking along the lines of the storming of Normandy/Omaha beach in WWII, except that if airborn weapons are available, its stupid to waste people this way, esp if there are millions of clones on the one side and an army of unique individuals on the other...

But as always I trust to Lucas' vision, and just assume it is a rumor.

  • Granted, Starship Troopers had some pretty stupid battles, orbital bombardment only works if there's NOTHING on the planet that should remain. Destroying an entire planet is in the realm of the Dark Side, not the Light. If there are civilians, you can't just go around doing that. The problem I see is that for that sort of fight, light sabers just aren't nearly as useful as a good machine gun (or blaster, or what have you).

Of course, a form of Force virus might work, spreading from Jedi to Jedi, corrupting the very power that makes them good...hmmm, maybe we could call it something like "The Dark Side"...
  • This is vaguely on topic--I called that 1-800 number a few months ago, leaving my contact information. I haven't gotten anything yet though. Has anybody else?
  • I got my "poster" about a month ago. Very small; can't remember off hand whether it was letter-sized or double that. At any rate, it looked like very amateurish fan art for the first movie.
  • If I am not mistaken, clones are almost inherently unstable copies of the originals. Something about forced resonance, cloning errors, and the high force potential of the originals makes the Jedi clones very dangerous and prone to the dark.

I would imagine it be pointless to clone normal people, as robots and droids would be much more effective. So using a Force virus to disable or weaken the clones would not be so Dark, except perhaps dangerous in that normal healthy Light Jedi would also be affected.

Besides the fact that part of the allure of the Star Wars universe is the small band of heroes myth; said band sorta gets lost in a crowd of thousands...

I finally get on the front page. Looks like I may post first too. Anyways, for a movie thats at least 4 years away, its nice to hear some decent speculation on its plot.
  • All the books I've seen set before A New Hope are about the adventures of characters like Han Solo and Lando Calrissian. Nothing about the rise of the Emperor, or the Clone Wars, or how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader. There is a package I've seen in stores with an Anakin Skywalker figure and book, but that came out within the last year; anybody know more about this?
  • If nothing else, the presence of shield generators would make a ground attack "necessary and unavoidable." Don't forget that the purpose of the ground battles on both Hoth and Endor was to destroy shield generators and make an air or space attack possible.
  • I really want to see the new trailer... but Wing Commander? I might end up paying for the WC ticket, watch the trailer, leave right before the actual movie starts, and go watch The Corrupter.
  • I might actually fork out the dough (matinee prices aren't so bad) to go and see Wing Commander even without the new Star Wars trailer on it as long as Chris Roberts doesn't direct it. The movie scenes in WC IV were absolutely horrid. Roberts may be a pretty good game designer, but he's a crappy director.
  • Chapter 2 - the fifth part of the increasingly inaccurately named Star Wars trilogy?

I've seen something like that before somewhere...

If Han Solo isn't around until near the end (I haven't got a clue about the SW story line so feel free to call me stupid, if of course you're so sad you've got nothing better to do with your life), then perhaps they could call the story "Mostly Hanless"?

May the farce be with you...
  • True true.
But that doesn't necessitate the hoards called for by the rumor site. One would think a small intrepid band of heroes would fulfill the job quite nicely.
