LUGs @ LWCE; Win a Trip to The Bazaar 27

Some conference notes came in: NY, NJ and New England LUGs have been invited to LWCE in Feb. Click below for more details. As well, Copyleft is running a contest to send people to thebazaar. They've got the full details about the contest on their site. LWCE is Feb. 1-4, in NYC, The Bazaar is December 14-16, in NYC.

LinuxWorld Conference & Expo would like to support the New York, New Jersey and New England area LUGs at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo at the February 1 - 4, 2000 event at the Javits Center in New York City (www.linuxworldexpo.com). LUGs who would like to participate will be given a slot in our area LUGs rack in the .org pavilion. In these slots, LUGs can provide attendees with information on how to join their organization. LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will also send your LUG conference brochures and expo passes that you can give out at meetings. For more details, or if you would like to participate, please contact Kristin DeAngelis, Marketing Manager at kristin_deangelis@idg.com or 508.424.4823. Space is limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve, basis.

  • There appears to be a great deal of these "conferences" out there. What exactly of consequence goes on there? I really could justify the expense of plane fare if I had a reason.
  • Just got my plane tickets to The Bazaar today :) This is going to be such a great conference. Hope a good time will be had by all.
  • I'm going there to meet interesting and fun people. This community is like an extended family, so you can think of these conferences as family reunions :-)
  • Being in the Southern Tier New York LUG, I guess that qualifies me to go. :-)

But I was just trying to talk my manager sending me for work. So do I go for work (harder to convice the managers I need to go, but they pay everything) or do I just go because of this invitation?

  • I've never heard of anyone winning a content before. ;)

  • Does anyone know if they will allow people under 18 to be present? Several other conferences at the Javits Center did not, and I'm not sure if that (ignorant) policy is mandated by the Javits Center, or by the organizers of the specific event. I could not find any mention of it on the site either way.

BTW, I see on the LinuxWorldExpo site that they do allow people under 18, in fact, they even give them discounts!
  • Rather pleased about that one... I'm 16... my b-day is in February so I can con my parents to take me out of school for three days to go see it maybe... if I get my grades up :P The discount will definitly help I expect... I couldn't find ticket pricing on there, could someone point me in the right direction? All I saw was a registartion thing... but I don't think that's for tickets and if I accidentally order a booth my parents will decapitate me ;)

If you think you know what the hell is going on you're probably full of shit.
  • Yes, the hotels in NYC are increadibly expensive. You can look at some of the hostels though. Some of them are really just a few blocks away from Javits and cost significantly less than a hotel. There's a list of hostels here [hostels.com].
  • It would be nice if that fact at least appeared in the /. story.. would have saved me the trouble of clicking the link *sigh*. anyway.. this contest isn't news, and doesn't matter. I'd just like to add a quick idea here: a topic US only, for things that will not be useful for most people. Most people do not live in the US. I don't see any dutch only contests here, which would make just as much sense.

  • If we're talking about LWE, you can get a pass for the exhibit area and a few other things for free if you register by email, web, or fax before 1/4/00. Otherwise it's $25, for anyone including students. Here's the pricing page:

I hope to see you there... once I convince my parents to take me :)
