iTunes Expands In Europe 44

jawtheshark writes "I found just out today that Apple launched the iTunes store in serveral more European countries. Countries include : Austria, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. Apparently it launched 26 october 2004, making this a late submission.   Back when they announced this [apple.com], they said they'll be coming to Canada in November. Technically, they still have two more weeks, but it's coming.

Some stuff that bothers me in iTMS Belgium:
- our music selection is a fraction of that of the US
- people in Belgium also speak Dutch (63% of them) and German. French is cool, but not everyone understands it.
- we are all the fun categories? House, Techno, Lounge, Acid?
- World music? Where's our own Helmut Lotti (yech!!)

    I also found that somewhat odd, as Ireland uses the euro -- I mean, Sweden and Denmark wanted to "keep their independence" and opted out of monetary union, so at first I supposed that no non-Euro EU country (except the UK) got the iTMS.     Given the way you lot (the Germans) and the French, amongst others, have been breaking the rules established to ensure a stable currency, some of us who did join (and studiously obeyed said rules) are now wondering if maybe the Swedes, Danes and Brits weren't right all along?   Errr... maybe because they have to pay the European labels, the employees, the bandwith and all the infrastructure in Euros, you think??
  
  It would be stupid if they charge 99 US cents when they have to pay 60 Eurocents to labels and 20 Eurocents to credit card payments, etc., wouldn't it?

    Also, you may need to consider sales taxes (aka VAT) in your comparison if they are levied on the purchases. It may not account for all of the difference, but it could account for some (particularly when sales taxes can be up to 25% in some EU countries from what I understand).

I don't get it, outside the US, Japan has one of the biggest populations of Apple devotees (they even made Japanese switch commercials [plex.us]). Plus, pop music is an obsession over there. I can't afford to spend $30 on imported CDs, and I'm not going to buy Taiwanese bootlegs. I want my JPop dammit!
