Some people rely on their service dogs to help them with everyday life, and as a way to continue its mission to serving the blind, Guiding Eyes migrated more than half a million health records and more than 65,000 temperament records on thousands of dogs to the IBM Cloud. President and CEO of Guiding Eyes, Thomas Panek, said, "People don't typically think about an organization like ours as a Big Data company but we cannot succeed or grow without it."
"Guiding Eyes is a great example of how IBM Cloud can help organizations innovate new business models and processes that were heretofore unthinkable," said William Karpovich, General Manager, IBM Cloud Platform. Is that really Big Data? I wouldn't consider 565M records Big Data. 5.65G records is low end of Big Data.
Thus, how is this more than warm, fuzzy, feel good PR for IBM?

My first thought upon reading the summary was that these folks would shit their pants if they saw actual big data. As others have said, it's a press release.

People don't think of you as having Big Data because you DON'T. Those numbers don't even qualify as Largish data. more middle of the road
I wouldn't even call it middle of the road. The company I work for has plenty of tables with more that 1 million records and I don't consider ourself big data. We do have some amount of data mining but we're still on standard servers with standard harddrives that are below capacity. I think of big data (at a bare minimum) as data that exceeds the capacity of a normal harddrive. If all your data can still fit on a single harddrive then you're not big data yet. So basically if you're not counting space
