US Cyber Command, DHS, and FBI Expose New North Korean Malware (zdnet.com) 14

US Cyber Command, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations have exposed today a new North Korean hacking operation. Authorities have published security advisories detailing six new malware families that are currently being used by North Korean hackers. From a report: According to the Twitter account of the Cyber National Mission Force (CNMF), a subordinate unit of US Cyber Command, the malware is being distributed via a North Korean phishing campaign. US Cyber Command believes the malware is used to provide North Korean hackers with remote access to infected systems in order to steal funds that are later transfered back to North Korea, as a way to avoid economical sanctions. The North Korean government has a long history of using hackers to steal funds from banks and cryptocurrency exchanges in order to evade economic sanctions and raise funds for its nuclear weapons and missile programs. In September 2019, the US Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on the Pyongyang regime for the use of this exact tactic.

As WikiLeaks' Vault 7 noted, [wikileaks.org] the CIA has a history of creating malware, deploying it, then blame other entities for the mayhem or havoc it creates.

Sure, but Wikileaks is also a Russian propaganda outlet, Assange is even paid by RT (well, he was before he was finally chucked in jail where all captured foreign agents belong).

So also take anything from Wikileaks with an even bigger grain of salt.

  • ... economical sanctions ..." in favour of wasteful sanctions?

  • ... have the ability to undo what's been done?

Why are we even being informed? This is a photo-op because the US can't do black-ops.

Could have been the Marble Framework v 2.0 in use?
All that Korean, the ip, time zone, a hint of the best US emulation of Juche computing and the FBI/DHS/contractors... detected the CIA in action.

Re "Why are we even being informed?"
So other nations know of powerful US methods.. and are spooked by the power of the investigative teams.
US contractors and gov/mil workers need a raison d'être for their next years budget... vs the expert budget haul by teams from the NSA, CIA.
Good news now is great bud

Good news now is great budget news next budget.

You know, a way to sell that would be to gain more air time than fucking NK.

Where's the headline, "US takes down NK stealth economy?"

If its not in the news how will the budget setting people in the gov know who in the US mil/gov to fund for cyber police work next year?
The NSA and CIA could take more and more of the new cyber budget again without some good cyber news.
The glory, medals and promotions for all will be lost to the CIA and NSA again.

If it IS in the news that the US is incompetent with the massive budget it has now, why would voters be motivated to expand on that incompetency?

Success draws money. I repeat: Where's the success stories like, "US hacks NK and drains all the money NK hacked?"
