Europe's First Psychedelic Drug Trial Firm To Open in London (theguardian.com) 21

Europe's first commercial facility for psychedelic drug trials is to open in London, with the goal of making the UK a global leader in psychedelics research and innovation. From a report: The British startup Clerkenwell Health aims to begin trials in its central London facility in August, initially focusing on the use of psilocybin to help people deal with the anxiety associated with a diagnosis of terminal illness, and to support them through their end-of-life care. The news comes as scientists and policymakers gather in London this Wednesday for the Agenda for Psych Symposium, a daylong programme to discuss the latest research and the future of the psychedelics industry in Europe.

  • Did England not leave the EU?
    • They didn't leave the continent. They left the EU. They might be an island, but islands are a fixed feature of continents - they don't move very fast.

  • Someone tell BoJo he doesn't have to stand in line quite yet.

    I thought Amsterdam was first?

If you can remember where the psychedelic drug trials are, you weren't there.

    • Sadly, the Netherlands has been falling behind enormously thanks to regressive conservative governments, in part fueled by moronic rightwing populist sentiments.

The country that was once on the forefront of a rational approach to drugs has now been surpassed by (parts of) the country that started the 'war on drugs', was founded by Puritans, and still has a huge problem with nipples and 'naughty words'.
In the Netherlands LSD is illegal. Magic mushrooms are illegal. MDMA is illegal (although psilocybin contai

  • So Switzerland - which is experimenting and researching all kinds of psychedelics since +30 years - does no longer belong to Europe?

    • An experiment is not a drug trial. A drug trial is working with a drug for a potential specific treatment and working toward approval for that drug being used for that purpose.

      • That is what Swizerland is doing since decades.
No idea why you found it worth your time to nitpick about words like "experiment" and "drug trial".

        • Because the two terms mean very specific different things in English. I had assumed you were referring to the distinct meaning.

However, another poster thought London isn't in Europe so maybe it's all because the writer thinks Europe = EU.

          • Nevertheless Switzerland is doing studies since decades.

Probably, considering that even Ukraine is in Europe - and most of Russia ...

  • I mean, all the sixties... Sorry, I don't remember.

    • But then Timothy Leary said too much, Kissinger and Nixon understood what it meant, and made sure it'll be illegal and virtually impossible to study for ~50 years.

  • That's great, I hope it'll make people there more open about smoking marijuana because it's indeed the best way to cope with anxiety. I even decided to grow it myself about a year ago, thankfully it's legal in my place, and with Herbies Seeds [herbiesheadshop.com], it's pretty easy for me to get a great harvest, so hopefully, it'll be more widespread everywhere.
  • Wow, well, actually it's very cruel, because such experiments will not lead to anything good. I recommend you to try a great website [herbiesheadshop.com] through which you can order seeds for yourself in order to relieve stress later because it has already been proven that it really helps. I wish you good luck!
