MrBeast Overtakes PewDiePie as Most-Subscribed YouTuber (bbc.com) 55
MrBeast has ended PewDiePie's reign as the YouTuber with the most subscribers -- the first change at the top in almost 10 years. From a report: Swedish creator PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, became the most-subscribed YouTuber in August 2013 with his gaming reaction videos. In 2019, he was the first person to attract 100 million subscribers. But the philanthropy of MrBeast, really called Jimmy Donaldson, gained him his 112 millionth subscriber this month. Although YouTube does not show the exact numbers, that pushed him above PewDiePie's 111 million.
MrBeast is known for videos featuring huge cash giveaways and prizes, as well as charity work. In 2021, he launched a separate philanthropy-themed YouTube channel, which itself has more than 10 million subscribers, and he has a licensed charity that functions as a food bank to feed communities across the US. He and fellow YouTuber Mark Rober organised international collaborative fundraisers TeamSeas and TeamTrees, which focus on environmental issues - the latter raising more than $24m to plant 20 million trees worldwide. And PewDiePie himself donated almost $70,000 to the TeamTrees project.

So, according to that nonsensical article, Mr. Kjellberg is definitely not in any way a "nazi" or a racist (the article author explicitly says exactly that), but as some of his millions of subscribers MAY hold such views, he is "nazi-adjacent." Right. Got it.

The difference is that I haven't said a bunch of stuff that excites and emboldens nazis and caused a bunch of them to mark me as a friend, to the point that they make up a signifcant fraction of my fans and even affect my actions in turn through their feedback. That's similarly what makes PewDiePie more nazi-adjacent than some leftist Youtuber who doesn't have a bunch of nazi fans.

Don,t know, don't care. Point is more care then we may. How many are bots used by either of them? I bet more then a few but not my problem.
YouTube is unbelievably aggressive about culling bot subscribers, to the point that they've adjusted the algorithm to cull idle humans as if they were bots. It's a very common complaint in the lower tiers of channels.

Actually I do. I find it incredibly interesting that on a streaming platform a single player has retained the lead in subscribers for that incredible length of time.
I find this story fascinating while not giving a shit about either streamer.

They are important in that they are influential, but for almost no other reason really. MrBeast is interesting to me in that he gives a lot of stuff away to people, he's not just hoarding all of his fan-derived wealth. That's much of how he came to prominence. If I had to guess I would guess slightly to moderately right of center, and I do have to guess which is awesome. Notarubicon is somewhat more transparent (he puts up conservative decorations or wears conservative tee shirts on occasion, but never seems to go the other way) but he doesn't really make too much political commentary so I can bear it. Plus, he's moderately funny, which helps.

You've clearly never watched a MrBeast video. He spends quite literally millions of dollars producing videos and gives away more money than pretty much any reality show on network television show ever has. He has perfected creating engaging titles, captions, and videos. There are other videos on YouTube that analyze how his videos are constructed to achieve this.
His content is definitely targeted more towards children but I think you're confusing the fact that you are not interested in his content with lack
