The U.S. Department of Commerce is ignoring Kaspersky's latest proposal to address cybersecurity concerns, despite the Russian firm's efforts to prove its products are free from Kremlin influence. Kaspersky's new framework includes localizing data processing in the U.S. and allowing third-party reviews. However, the Commerce Department hasn't responded to the security firm, which was recently banned by the U.S. Kaspersky told The Register it's pursuing legal options.

Even if they're not willing under Putin's control... they're under his control.
Nothing tainted by Russian ownership or on Russian soil should be trusted, the country needs to be walled off until it gets its shit together, joins the modern world, and can get along with neighbours it doesn't agree with without invading them.
It would really help if China, India, and Hungary would stop enabling them, too. All of those countries would do poorly in a world where Russia returns us to a world where international relations are all at gunpoint. It might also help if half the US wasn't salivating for that kind of world, too.

Indeed. My take is the only beef the US TLAs have with Kaspersky is that Kaspersky will happily detect, analyze and expose US-created malware. Other than that, it is about as dangerous as all AV and about as much subject to political influence. Sure, that is a massive problem, but the other AV vendors are really not any better.
What is utterly pathetic is how many people fall for the US propaganda in this regard.

Kaspersky is based in Russia and no matter what they say or do, when it comes down to it, if the choice facing the people who work there is "do what the Russian government wants" or "thrown in a hellhole jail that makes ADX Florence look like a 5 star hotel", the people who work there will do what the Russian government wants.
