Major US Grocery Distributor Warns of Disruption After Cyberattack (techcrunch.com) 10

United Natural Foods (UNFI), a major distributor of groceries to Whole Foods and other retailers, said on Monday that it was hit by a cyberattack, warning of disruptions to its ability to fulfill and distribute customer orders. From a report: UNFI said in a Monday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it became aware of unauthorized access to its IT systems last Thursday, and began shutting down portions of its network. The filing added that the company has "implemented workarounds for certain operations in order to continue servicing its customers where possible," but noted that the intrusion has caused ongoing disruptions to its business operations.

The Providence, Rhode Island-based company is one of the largest grocery distributors in North America, selling fresh produce, goods, and food products to more than 30,000 stores and supermarket locations across the U.S. and Canada. UNFI also serves as the "primary distributor" to Whole Foods, the Amazon-owned grocery chain. Last year, the two companies extended their long-running contract until May 2032.

For those who havent worked in the grocery business, UNFI is the primary distributor for Whole Foods and a ton of independent natural food grocery stores so this wont be effecting conventional markets much. In parts of the country at least they are the dominant distributor for all natural and organic foods..

You know that all of that nonsense about "efficiency" that reduced the teams that go after cyber crimes in the department of justice just encourages China, Russia, and North Korea to attack our infrastructure. So, Trump has all of this going on so he won't get prosecuted once he is out of office, but you also have foreign governments now encouraging hacking groups to attack ANYTHING in the USA they possibly can.

  • Because Reagan was the one who did the massive amounts of deregulation that paved the way for all the market consolidation so that a small disruption in a single company can completely fuck up our entire food supply.

Like how there is two factories making all of the baby formula in the entire freaking country. So we had a massive baby formula shortage when one of the two factories had to shut down because of rampant safety violations involving listeria bacteria.

Anyway elections have consequences enjoy your $800 a month grocery bill.

And an $800 grocery bill isn't one of them. The primary problem we have is with the courts. They are the ones who have gutted anti-trust laws, decimated mom-and-pop groceries and created the huge grocery store monopolies. All those Supreme Court judges from Harvard and Yale appointed by every President were trained to be lawyers for large corporate law firms. Their disagreements are all framed by the same narrow group of legal scholars. And none are framed for results contrary to the business interests they

    1. grocery store IT systems are right up there with bowling alleys
    2. their competitor is one of our largest customers
