SBC buying SNET

SBC Communications Inc. has agreed to buy the Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET). SBC is the company that owns Southwestern Bell, PacBell, NevadaBell, and Cellular One, and has international operations as well. SNET was one of the oldest competitors of the Baby Bells, and offered long distance services too. The deal is valued at US$4.8B
Is this just more consolidation of the telecommunications market, or is SBC growing too large?
