SlashNET Notes

Allright, I've sort of informally decided that I'm going to post SlashNET related stuff in the evenings so we don't clutter the normal news each day to badly. Let me start off by saying that opening night was pretty cool. Nice to see everybody in there. Hit the link below and read a few of my comments about the network, as well as a poll on services.
Allright, I wanna thank Weez and everyone else who brought up the network. They did a good job and quite quickly. Blame me for the DNS stuff, I screwed up the UK entry :)

Let me just say that SlashNET isn't aiming to compete with other networks. If you want to hang out in SlashNET and chat with fellow readers about Stuff That Matters, cool. If not, stay on whatever network you prefer. We don't exist to compete with other networks, we just want to exist.

Next let me tell you what's in store: Dave and I have some cool ideas for bots that will let Slashdot interact with IRC users. This may start as a simple bot that creates channels for stories and logs any discussion that occurs, and displays it on Slashdot, to a lot more crazy stuff It really all depends on how much time I can spend working on it, so click on those banner ads so our advertisers realize that Slashdot is a Good Thing(tm) and can pay me (and Dave) enough to devote the kind of time we'll need to do this stuff right.

Also, Weez wants everyone to vote on services- Chan, Oper, Both, Neither. Take a chance to voice your opinion on the poll here and we'll see what needs ot happen.

Lastly, we're open to anyone who wants to speak or schedule events to occur on SlashNET. We're going to probably schedule fixed topics, and have moderated discussions or open free for all craziness. Its wide open, but we want to make sure that Slashdot can be even more real time than it already is for the hard core folks who want to chit chat about the Stuff that Matters.

So join the network, form some channels, hang out. All I ask is that you're cool to everyone. No needless kicking and flaming. Everybody's cool. Everybody was once a newbie. And nobody knows everything. So everyone hang out and have fun- I'm looking forward to hanging out in #slashdot to discuss the site with people so we know what you want to make it better, but feel free to create whatever channels make sense.
