U of Wash Profs Revolt Against Online Courses

P.J. Hinton writes " University of Washington professors are protesting plans to put courses online for distance learning programs. Spokespeople for the profs suggest that they don't want to see the educational system managed by outside corporate interests, but I can't help if they've got some unstated self interests in mind. I could see where it would be nice to have core technical courses like calculus on line (classes that most universities teach with large auditorium style lectures already). However, upper level and discussion-oriented humanities courses probably need a live instructor. "
