Pragmatic image wins interest

In a rather weird article, Upside analyses the success of Free Software's undercover marketeers: pragmatism rather than religion. It claims that the promise "our product works better" is the basis for all the media attention. It reminds me of Science where the new methodology/theory is adopted if it works better in practice, not according to the ideas behind it.
Unfortunately the author also slams RMS, most unwarrantedly. Given some of his assumptions, I somehow doubt there's much point trying to argue the point with him though... so please don't spam him.
