Slashdot's New Comment System (continued)

The new comments code is in. Hit the link below to read a relatively up-to-date list of the outstanding issues with it. I'm going to bed. Looking forward to reading a few hundred flames from people complaining about it tomorow *grin*. Note IE and Lynx are broken right now. I'll hopefully fix it tomorrow. It's a problem with my Set-Cookie:, so if you are familiar with that stuff, check it out and let me know what I'm doing wrong.
  1. The passwords. I shortened them to 8 chars instead of 10. Eventually we'll be able to edit them, but for now, write it down. Besides, you can always resend it if you forget it. If you login and change your password, you can get a fancy new-and-improved shortened for less security password.
  2. Cookies. Sorry. This is the only way I can reliably authenticate. I know a lot of you hate cookies, but most of you that they won't hurt you. The plaintext thing is a problem, but I'll get that one sorted out later. You can do all the major stuff without accepting a cookie (create/edit your account and post) you just need to type your l/p in when you post.
  3. Anonymity. I'm still allowing anonymous posting. You can still say anything you like. You just can't impersonate other users. Your rights aren't being violated, I'm just protecting the rights of the Other Guy who gets impersonated by some kiddie. That can't happen anymore.
  4. Bugs. Both IE and Lynx are broken! I am aware of this, but haven't yet had time to fix it. If you see what the problem is (I'm sure I just mucked up my Set-Cookie: somehow) please let me know.
  5. I laid the create user page out a bit differently. Hope it will make more sense to those of you who didn't quite follow the logic. It was pretty rough, but today was beta testing day anyway :)
  6. A new soure code release should be out towards the end of this week. Depends how much time school starts taking. This version should be pretty usable, but we're a few releases away from what I would call a feature complete release.
  7. I've been coding now on this since thursday. I'm tired. I need sleep. And classes start in 2 days. Ack!
