Slashdot Notes

Well folks its friday and I'm ready to relax, so I'm going to take a second and just unload the list of stuff that has changed here recently. Also, note that I've added a link on the left hand menu to 'Ask Slashdot'. We're going to start posting more of them, but only put the more relevant ones of the homepage itself. This will be handled by Cliff Wood who has done a great job filtering these things for us. Hit the link below to read to Slashdot notes.
Stuff I got done in the last couple of days:
  • Invisible Articles (they appear on the section index, but not the actual homepage. This is for Ask Slashdot primarily)
  • User Bios (you can write a little paragraph to be displayed on your User Info page)
  • Polls now display votes & comments. You probably noticed that already.
  • Polls use your user account to determine flat/thread.
  • signature support added. You can edit your user account to auto append sigs to your posts.
  • tons of backend code rewritten (submissions, vars, blocks, author editor, cleaner poll editing etc).
  • Headline Mailer (it's done, but untested. It will mail headlines to your email address if you turn it on in your user preferences).

Few more things on the roster for me to code yet. I need to write a section editor, but that doesn't matter to anyone unless they are running their own copy of Slash.

Icons I need icons for topics 'Humor' and 'Science'. If anyone has urls of something that will work, lemme know.

Reply notification will go in pretty quick. It'll send you an email if someone replies to one of your comments on Slashdot. It'll (obviously) be off by default, but several folks asked for it, and it seems like a good idea. It'll take an int, which will define that maximum number of times to notify you about a given comment. That number will be settable on a per-comment basis, so if you don't want to be notified, you won't.

And now, an evening off. Gonna find Dave & drink some whiskey. Maybe watch Jedi again. And I've got a loaf of bread (this is Loaf #3, and this loaf seems to be rising!) baking. Plus I've got to figure out the various buttons and dials on my camera so I won't flunk my photography class. Maybe I should drink before I try to figure out the camera?
