Apple Assisting Authorized Repair Shops With COVID-Related Expenses (macrumors.com) 13

NoMoreACs writes: According to an article from MacRumors, Apple is helping offset increased costs incurred by their third-party Authorized Repair Shops due to the COVID-19 forced closures and other COVID-related expenses, such as cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment. The retroactive reimbursements will come in the form of increased payouts for repairs and will remain in effect depending on each country's (and I assume localities') Stay-at-Home orders. And for those who don't think such things exist, the article included a handy guide (albeit with a little digging) to Apple's Authorized Third-Party Repair Shops.

  • These poor 3rd-party repair shops need all the help they can get, and Apple is giving them as much as they can.
  • Curious what the apple haters would be saying now...

    • There is a special place in hell reserved for each and every apple employee. Probably one for you too by virtue of the fact that this trick has fanboys like yourself fooled...

        Really?

First off, this affects only non-Apple Employees, so WTF is your comment even about?

Second, in what possible way can this be spun into "negative news"?

        Please explain. I'll wait...

  • Omg. Just let end users order parts and repair their own devices.

      Oh, bullshit!

You can already order and replace any parts that a "Normal" could possibly be able to pull-off without a full-blown SMT rework station (with BGA paste application and reflow capabilities!), video microscope and some actual SMT rework experience (which isn't the same as SMT assembly experience). That is to say, what is already available is pretty-much anything that doesn't require soldering (Glass, Display, Touchscreen, Battery, and maybe one or two other components/assemblies).

      This is not horse

  • My wife's iMac stopped booting reliably - under warranty, even without AppleCare.

Took it to Apple in Annapolis (MD) just before Apple closed all stores. They called us and offered to give the machine back since they would not be able to fix it; took it home and got it backed up (at least target mode worked).

A few weeks later, contacted Apple about prospects for repair. They said we should try an authorized repair place nearby.

Went with MacMedics [macmedics.com]. Small place in an industrial park; they asked we call ahead
