Apple Assisting Authorized Repair Shops With COVID-Related Expenses (macrumors.com) 13
NoMoreACs writes: According to an article from MacRumors, Apple is helping offset increased costs incurred by their third-party Authorized Repair Shops due to the COVID-19 forced closures and other COVID-related expenses, such as cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment. The retroactive reimbursements will come in the form of increased payouts for repairs and will remain in effect depending on each country's (and I assume localities') Stay-at-Home orders. And for those who don't think such things exist, the article included a handy guide (albeit with a little digging) to Apple's Authorized Third-Party Repair Shops.

How about a nice, warm cup of "shut the fuck up"? Authorized Apple repair shops do little more than toe the Apple line. This is the least Apple could do for them.
What "line" would you propose they "toe", instead?
Every single "Authorized Repair" shop for every single brand of every single type of equipment "toes the line" (i.e., their Service Center Agreement), or they are soon no longer "Authorized", and thus cannot perform warranty repairs, receive proprietary service manuals and software, and in almost all cases, can forget ordering proprietary parts and assemblies.

Really?
First off, this affects only non-Apple Employees, so WTF is your comment even about?
Second, in what possible way can this be spun into "negative news"?
Please explain. I'll wait...

Oh, bullshit!
You can already order and replace any parts that a "Normal" could possibly be able to pull-off without a full-blown SMT rework station (with BGA paste application and reflow capabilities!), video microscope and some actual SMT rework experience (which isn't the same as SMT assembly experience). That is to say, what is already available is pretty-much anything that doesn't require soldering (Glass, Display, Touchscreen, Battery, and maybe one or two other components/assemblies).

Took it to Apple in Annapolis (MD) just before Apple closed all stores. They called us and offered to give the machine back since they would not be able to fix it; took it home and got it backed up (at least target mode worked).
A few weeks later, contacted Apple about prospects for repair. They said we should try an authorized repair place nearby.
Went with MacMedics [macmedics.com]. Small place in an industrial park; they asked we call ahead
